Gather up your bubble gum, fill your Chevy Convertible full of gas and drive straight to the Arizona Broadway Theatre for their second summer production of THE TAFETTAS! If you’ve had a chance to see their amazing production of FOREVER PLAID which just opened, then you’ll love the pure fun and medley of music Director Kurtis Overby has crafted live on stage at the ABT. This is the stuff dreams are made of and these Tafetta sisters have hit a high note only matched by the boys of Forever Plaid!
This is the story of four sisters from Muncie, Indiana who are about to hit the big time as they make their debut on national television during the heyday of the 1950’s girl groups. Ed Sullivan is standing by in the wings to take them to the next level if they are good enough. Not only are they good enough, they are great! This medley of hits from the 50’s is better than any idol show could ever be-and it’s live and intimate as a Barbara Walters interview!
You’ll need an applause meter to keep up with the positive and funny antics these cute and bubbly sisters have to share. But this show is about the music and these sisters can sing. With Donna, Peggy, Kaye and Cheryl, it’s hard to pick a favorite Tafetta. You’ll just love em all! Starring Shayla Benoit as Donna, Jeannie Shubitz as Peggy, Laura Berger as Kaye and Katrina Hagofsky as Cheryl, this dynamic quartet scorched the hit parade with song after song of perfect harmony and emotion!
If you want hits, then this show is loaded with some of the best love songs and musical numbers ever written. Starting with ‘Sh-Boom”, “Love is a Two Way Street”, “ Mr. Sandman”, and “Tonight You Belong to Me”, to the Hurt Medley with “I’m Sorry”, “Ricochet”, ‘I Cried”, “Cry”, and “Smile”, this was a “special state of love” all night and the audience loved it dearly! There was also the Music Medley with “I Wonder Why”, “L-O-V-E”, “M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-US- E”, “Puppy Love”, and ‘How Much is That Doggie in the Window”.
But maybe the heartbreak really didn’t set in for this loving audience until the Boys Medley crashed the party. With the pedal on full throttle, the Taffeta sisters put the icing on a perfect musical cake with, “Johnny Angel’, “Mister Lee”, “Dedicated to the One I Love”, “Where the Boys Are”, and “I’ll Think of You.” Backing up this beautiful quartet of singers and keeping the beats to perfection were cousin Billy Moore on piano, Dan Stotz on Bass and Thom Lynch on drums.
THE TAFEETAS is a warm and loving musical affair I would highly recommend. Go see what may have been the best girl group ever to walk the stages of American television. The music, stories and antics of theses girls from Muncie are the perfect summer desert! For tickets call 623-776-8400 or go online at www.azbroadwaytheatre.com. |
