The Latest News on Palladium Price

Precious Metals are a Stable Investment

What is the latest news on palladium price?  Over at The Motley Fool, a reporter wrote that 2011 was the year that “buried palladium.”  The article drew attention to how the precious metal declined throughout the year, which eventually affected stock performance, and even some palladium mining companies.

What happened?  Why is palladium only worth $662.00 PTO as of January 3, 2011, a significant drop from earlier peaks?  Probably because of the nature of the metal, as well as the recession.  First, understand that palladium is a rare metal and an industrial metal, more so than an investment metal.  It is too expensive to be considered investable by low-income families, but not as expensive or as universally popular as gold.  At the same time, palladium is actually thought to be rarer than gold.  This puts it in a unique position, and an important industrial metal.  It is often used in automotive manufacturing, especially in catalytic converters.

What about you and palladium price?  As a general rule, it is best not to limit yourself to only the most expensive or the cheapest metals out there.  If you buy silver and gold, then don’t be overly cautious and avoid palladium and platinum-two other metals that operate similarly to silver but have subtle differences.  For example, you might not know it, but palladium is actually a very popular investment coin, namely in the American Eagle series.

There have already been mints made in gold, silver and platinum.  Palladium is another beautiful metal that is predicted to be a top seller.  The U.S. Mint is already researching the possibility of a palladium coin and may well release its plans soon.  Based on the proposed legislation, the composition of this coin would be 99.95% pure.  The legislation was written in 2010 so the release of these coins is fast approaching.  Can you imagine a collector not excited about a new American Eagle coin?  It’s all over but the shouting…the U.S. Mint does not want to disappoint its large following of collectors.

American Eagle collectors always have great new mints to choose from, and an American Eagle palladium price would certainly be one worth paying.  For more information on the series and on the metal, talk to a coin dealer in your area.  You can also find more information from visiting an online source, which allows convenient shipping, a greater selection and lower prices than you’ll find at an auction!
