1.Portion and calorie control are key for weight loss and management.
2.Choose healthy food choices -- fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and chicken breasts.
3.Conduct weekly weight checks. Limit it to once a week, at the same time and on the same scale.
4.Limit alcohol consumption. Do so sparingly, if you must indulge, and choose one glass (2-4 ounces) of wine instead of a mixed drink. Red wine, in moderation, has been found to have many health benefits.
5.Avoid temptations whenever and wherever possible. Bring healthy meals and snacks when options may be limited.
6.If invited to a party, eat a small, healthy snack before going -- yogurt, fruit or vegetables are ideal. Also, do not congregate near the food tables and bar.
7.Try to do some moderate exercise every day to expend calories. Remember the "calories in vs. calories out" theory. If you currently don't have a routine, make sure to consult a doctor before undertaking anything new.
8.Drink plenty of water and get the proper amount of rest your body needs to rejuvenate itself. Too little sleep has been found to interfere with one's ability to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.
9.Don't procrastinate and say you will "diet tomorrow" and consume unhealthy foods. Instead, think of it as a lifestyle change and make every day a healthy food choice day.
10.One's greatest asset in life is their health, so make sure to keep it top priority. The basis of good health is healthy eating.
